Healthtech startup BestDoc raises $2.1 Mn in a Pre-series round

BestDoc, a Kochi based healthtech startup has raised $2.1 million in a Pre-series A round from US based Accel Partners and Bengaluru based Arkam Ventures. Salamander Excubator Angel (SEA) Fund, an existing investor in the startup, also participated in the round.

BestDoc, founded by Afsal Salu, Fayaz Bin Abdu and Soudabi Neduvanchery in the year 2016, started off as a marketplace for doctor appointments for tier-2 cities and smaller towns. Later, it embraced a B2B model, perceiving the potential of digital adoption in the healthcare system.

Since 2018, BestDoc has partnered with 120 healthcare service providers in India, including the Apollo Hospitals in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Dr. LH Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai(Maharashtra), Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode (Kerela), Aster Group and KIMS Global Group.

“In the COVID-19 scenario, BestDoc has scaled up its telemedicine and contactless solutions across several states as healthcare digitization is happening at an unprecedented pace”, said Afsal Salu. Startups from Kerela have been successful in raising funds even during the tough times of Covid-19. It showed the quality of startups emerging from the state and the confidence of investors in them, the release added.

BestDoc which has raised $2.5 Mn including a seed round from angel investors, will utilize the funds to expand its business to other cities in India and to develop products for refining the in-patient admission and hospitalisation experience.
