Pustakalayam – Meet this boy who sold and delivered books when e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart failed to do so in lockdown

Pustakalayam: When the first lockdown was imposed in the country due to corona pandemic; it halted motion of almost everything. People could not leave their house, businesses were temporarily shut(until the lockdown was lifted) and economic growth started degrading rapidly. Though, few people found it as a golden opportunity to resuscitate the connection they lost with their family due to fast-moving life. But there were people who really disappointed. The students and the aspirants preparing for competitive exams were highly disappointed when companies like Amazon and Flipkart stopped delivering books during the lock-down.

Being a bibliophile, Abi Vatsal could understand candidates’ pain and decided to help those who wanted to utilize this crucial time. Abi Vatsal who belongs to Patna; his house which is at close distance to stationaries and bookshops, gave him an idea of selling and delivering books and notebooks to those who needed them.

Pustakalayam: The idea and its execution

He didn’t have time to build fancy e-commerce website so he created an Instagram account with the name of Pustakalayam and shared its link to his close friends. His friends supported him by sharing the link to their friends. This is how Pustakalaym reached to many students in a short span of time. On the first day of creating the Instagram account, He got sixteen orders to be delivered which he successfully did it within twenty-four hours of receiving. Doing which not only it helped him to get into entrepreneurship but also brought a lot of respect and appreciation from his friends and family members.

Pustakalayam – the idea which started in lockdown, now delivers notebooks and books of all classes and competitive exams in three different cities of Bihar. Abi Vatsal also aims to build a school in his city to give skill based education to the underprivileged at economical rate.

“I need nothing but support from people. This will act as a fuel for me to help others”, says Abi Vatsal, Founder of Pustakalayam.
